What it is

One-to-one RN and LPN care in your home, for the hours your child’s condition requires — from a few hours a day to around-the-clock coverage.

Private duty nursing is continuous, one-to-one skilled care provided in the home by a licensed RN or LPN. Unlike an intermittent home-health visit measured in minutes, private duty nursing is measured in shifts — the nurse stays, watches, and cares for your child for the full authorized period.

For medically fragile children, that continuity is the whole point. The same small team learns your child’s baseline: what their normal breathing sounds like, which position settles them, what the first sign of trouble looks like hours before a number changes on a monitor. That familiarity is what keeps children out of the emergency department.

Who this is for: Children under 21 with a skilled nursing need documented by their physician — including ventilator dependence, tracheostomy, complex airway needs, seizure disorders, feeding tubes and other medically fragile conditions.
